 Turn on your TV   on weekends nowadays and you would be amazed at how two different music reality TV shows MTN’s Project Fame and Glo’s X-Factor have taken over the airways.;Why are this Companies Pouring huge amounts Amount of Capital into this Reality one thing is Clear DOMINANCE.

From the prefixes of the titles, one needs no further explanation that the TV programmes are enjoying financial sponsorships from two of Nigeria’s leading telecommunications company, MTN and Glo, which is no surprise because in recent times the reality show TV programming concept of different genres have become a phenomenon all over the world, attracting millions of addictive viewers, thus making it a veritable marketing campaign tools for multinationals who often pump staggering figures into sponsorships of such shows.

Incidentally, X-Factor, a franchise music show newly introduced by Glo after the lacklustre performance of Naija Sings (its now rested flagship reality), at present has most of its viewing schedules clashing with an older music reality TV show MTN Project Fame.

The competition between these two reality shows have become obvious from the very first day with Glo’s X-Factor entering the scene with a whopping N24 million prize money (highest ever offered by any Nigerian reality TV show), far outweighing MTN’s Project Fame’s N2.5 million naira. But then, if one analyses the track record of MTN Project Fame as the only music reality TV show so far that has produced real commercial stars such as Chidinma and Iyanya, amongst the about four top existing music reality TV shows in the country, then that’s enough to give Glo’s X-Factor the shivers.


As a matter of fact, most people are of the opinion that Glo shot itself in the foot by scrapping Naija Sings and that despite its failure to give the organisation the desired result, Glo should have worked on improving it, especially as it’s more original, unlike most top realty TV shows concepts in the country that borrowed from the West.

Although MTN has also upped its prize money to N5 million this season, but N5 million against N24 million?
One thing both reality shows can boast of in common, however, is the high pedigree of their lineup of judges and hosts: Glo boasts of the elegant stallion Onyeka Onwenu, Ghana’s Reggie Rockstone, and self-acclaimed Africa’s number one rapper M.I as Judges, with top Lagos Beat FM’s On-Air-Personality Toolz as host; while MTN proudly flaunts Joke Silva (more like Nollywood’s elegant stallion), Ade bantu, TY Mix, Kaffy and Dupe Ige, as Joseph Benjamin and Adora Oleh hosts the show.

Glo has now moved up its competition by signing More Number of Artists as Ambassadors Lynxx, Omawunmi , Waje , Flavor , Mr Incredible MI, Bura Boy and a Host of others whom they used to acheive their Portability Plans . MTN Again has again  made a Counter move by Bringing on board Etisalat Saka , Mavin Records Don Jazzy , Dprince , Tiwa Savage , and a Host of other in House Ahmbassadors like Iyanya, Chidinma ,and  Davido to who knows dish some more Counter active strategies .

Therefore, as Glo and MTN bring their all-time rivalry to the reality music show platform and Entertainment Scene it would be interesting to see who carries the day
